Beyonce’s 4 Album Review

So i know it has been some time since my last post. But the occasion called for this post. The long awaited release of Queen B Beyonce’s album 4. After running some errands I hit target and brought my copy. I’ve had it on rotation for the last 2 hours. And cause I love you guys I’m going to be honest about the album. It is definitely an amazing. Your head with bop from beginning to end.  However I don’t think this is Beyonce’s best album. I still stand behind saying that B’Day is her best album. But i digress. 4 as an album gave us everything. She has her ballads, of course the dance tracks and some mid tone songs that you just put on and groove to.

A lot of her fans and critics alike had somewhat of mixed feelings about this album, due to Run this World (girls).  I love the song, but it, in no way reflects the entire album. Quite honestly her growth since making the professional choice to split with her manager (father) Matthew Knowles, is evident all over the album. She played with sounds and beats and I think the album reflects where she is at this point in her life.

But I must commend her, she really let her voice and her creative mind take over the album. and when I say take over, I mean in a way that she controls the entire album. Start Over one of my favorite tracks, its shows a lot of growth on her part as an artist and someone who took the time to work on this project.

Love on Top is a fun joint. Mainly cause it gives you an old school Motown feeling. I feel like if she made a video to the song it would be Beyonce and her three back-up singers in diana ross wigs with matching dresses.

Countdown…my song!!!! definitely one for the ladies that like to move their hips. Its not a club banger but still a song that you and your girls will sing in the car or into your hair brushes or remotes!

And how could I forget Party ft. Andre 3000 this song already caught my heart simply cause it had Andre on it. He is one of the few collaborations on the album. But this one gives you that old school 90′s feel. On the level of an Aaliyah or a Mary J. You just vibe. You can definitely catch this joint at the block parties!

I’m not going to go into the entire album cause I want to leave some mystery about the album. The album on the outside continues to show how Beyonce is a true business woman. Just by the simple way she laid the album.

1. 1+1

2. I Care

3. I Miss You

4. Best thing I Never Had

5. Party (ft. Andre 3000)

6. Rather Die Young

7. Start Over

8. Love on Top

9. Countdown

10. End of Time

11. I Was Here

12. Run The World (girls)

purchase the album

In case you haven’t noticed she separated her hit singles just so you sit a listen to the album. It may seem like nothing, but think about it, if all her singles were right next to each other, would you honestly listen to the whole album? hmmmm? exactly!

I will say this is Bey’s most versatile album. She did take us on a journey, like you’re moving through her mind. She’s letting us know what kind of sounds she enjoys, and showcasing where she fits in with music.

I suggest you guys go out and get the album. She does deliver. Don’t judge the entire album on Run the World (for those who are) oh for those of you that will be in NYC on July 1st be sure to hit central park to see her live on GMA!

Bey Ms. Shay loves you!

Beyonce got us Moving Our Bodies

SO as apart of First Lady Obama’s campaign for a healthier nation, Queen B Beyonce has realeased a remake of her hit single Get me Bodied and has named is ‘Move Your Body’  and has just released the video. Its super cute, clearly as you can see it’s taking place in a cafeteria of a school. First Lady Obama, is really trying to reach the children, because childhood obesity ahs skyrocketed. and what better what to reach kids than having a song they can dance to.

The song takes you through different dance moves, and she is tapping into the hottest dance trends, like the dougie, I aint even gonna lie, I hit that dougie when I listen to the song. She also threw the cat daddy, which is my guilty pleasure in life lol. along with that she implements quick dance steps from both the Caribbean and Latin America.

I love this song, I have it on ivy my ipod and I be jammin, so lets go folks, i know you’re feelin the song so get up and Move Your Body!

check the video at the bottom

Mya making moves in Japan

Guess whose making her come back..yup Mya and no its not in the U.S. But in Japan. lets clap it up for Mya yay!!!! A lot of her new stuff has been leaked all over the internet, I heard some of it, and its pretty good. but as i mentioned above she set to really take off in Japan, which I think is a whole new audience for her. She is working more in the “pop” realm now, and we all that is like an ALL THE WAY different from her music back in the day. but I wish her the best in her future.

Lupe Fiasco pays a visit to Clark Atlanta University…L.A.S.E.R.S

Lupe Fiasco graced the campus of Clark Atlanta University today. He sat down with Dr. Joycelyn A. Wilson, Director of  The HipHop 2020 Project in front of an audience full of interested college students/fans opening up about his manifesto, his 14 point philosophy as well as his new music and of course the new album LASERS set 2 drop on March 8th.
He opened about his thought process, why he wrote his manifesto. He opens up about what guided him to write some of his music especially within the project coming out. He opens up about his background, his family, and his upbringing really delving into his relationship with his father, who made sure Lupe was as well rounded as the westside of Chicago would allow. And I think this made him even more real. He was honest and that’s what fans who are into hip hop really want. We want artist that will be honest about what they know, what they feel, and what they think.

But I have 2 tell ya’ll I he is one of the dopest hip hop minds ever. And I say hip hop minds because he’s not only a talented rapper. He not just about spittin 16 bars and a hook, collect his pay check and move on. He is someone who takes into consideration the world. The problems, the blessings…the ups and downs and throws it into his music he touches lives on a personal, prolific, realistic level. I was almost in awe most of the time as he spoke because what he was saying, the place in which he was coming from was fascinating to me. I have recently within the last year and ½, become a fan of Lupe and when some times when I listen to his music, and I mean really listen, he says some real stuff.
What I love about Lupe he’s a thinker. And a thinker that can put it in his music, can reach thousands. He believes that we should be aggressively peaceful. In the hood there is no need to fight fire with fire. Some things are not worth fighting for. There is no point in fighting amongst ourselves.

“you wanna punch somebody…go punch the CEO of AIG, go punch his ass”

He really took his time and being honest about how he feels politically, socially and economically. Throughout the entire presentation he was given the chance to explain why he chose the words in which he did in both he songs ‘Words I never said’ and ‘The Show Goes On’.

And to end the presentation he has the entire audience stand and read his Manifesto out loud together.

L.A.S.E.R.S. MANIFESTO:

It was an awesome experience and I’m looking forward to his album, his new foundation and any and all projects he has coming up in the future. LASERS is highly anticipated album, not just for Lupe as an artist but I think for hip hop as whole. So I’m ready, but are you?

Rihanna put it down at All Star Weekend

ok yea i was GEEKED for this performance i can’t even lie about it. My girl Rihanna did her thing at the 2011 NBA All Star Weekend. And to be honest I was pleasantly surprised. it was better than I thought it would be. I think she definitely was feeling herself and is showed on stage…in a good way. For those who don’t know Rihanna performed for the half time show with the help of Drake and Kanye West.

She did a mix for her songs; Umbrella, Only Girl, Rube Boy, Whats my Name and then ended with the hit All the Lights. but what I love about the performance was that she had a live band. and for me when a performer chooses to have a live band on stage it makes them that much more vulnerable as a singer, because now they actually have to make the attempt to sing. and I think Rihanna stepped outside of her comfort zone. and it worked for her…I cant even lie about it.

For once she looked like she was enjoying herself on stage. Her performance at the Grammys was good too, but I think because it seemed as if she was able to be a little bit more free on stage, there was positive energy that she had. home girl was dancing, and really using the stage. So i was excited to watch this performance. I think it was different Rihanna that haven’t really gotten the chance to see. I mean hey I would be on top of the world too if my perfume launch was a huge success.

i also noticed…i think Rihanna has been working on her vocals lately. The parts that I was able to hear…cause you know there were parts that you couldn’t hear her. but she is sounding better. to be honest, i never thought of Rihanna as a true vocalist, but she has amazing stage presence. and that has gotten her pretty far. and i have been waiting for her truly put some time into her vocals. and for this particular performance there is some progress.

I loved everything about this performance. i loved the dancers she got back to her Caribbean roots…which i absolutely love! she had a couple dance sequences which is something new for her! I loved her hair, that shade of red is good for her. i loved her outfit, I don’t care what anyone says home girl is THICK i mean seriously did you see them thighs YES HONEY!!! thats truly from the Caribbean for real.

oh and can i tell you guys how much i love the on stage chemistry between her and Drake #POW I’m serious folks, I love the two of them together on stage. They put it down at the Grammys and recreated it again for this performance.  And her and Kanye definitely held it down and finished strong. I just love that song any way so yea!

sidenote: Rihanna is going on tour this summer in which she will be accompanied by Cee Lo. i don’t know about you guys but I’m definitely going to this tour!

so yea..I am and always will be a fan of Rihanna…deal with it

Aubrey O’day’s New Reality Show

yup ya’ll former Danity Kane memeber Aubrey O’day is getting her own reality show. of course to be titled All about Aubrey…how original! she’s basically giving the public and behind the scenes (or so we think) look at her trying to get back into the lime light. um ok!

so she was with danity kane…her ego exploded, she fell off, now she’s gonna be like every other d list star and get her own reality show to make a come back. yup! that sounds about right. ok let me stop being mean. I  can’t knock home girl’s hustle, if a reality show is the way to get back out there then so be it. I mean she did start her career on a reality show, so why not use one to revamp it!

but enough about how I feel. the show will air March 7th on oxygen. so if you are or were an Aubrey O’day fan, I guess you might enjoy this. but as for me, I’ll stick to Danity Kane albums!

Kanye’s New video ft. Rhianna and Kid Cudi

i have been saying lately that i miss watching videos.  I know you all remember back in the day when you would come home frome school and you could make something to eat and in the midst of doing your homework, you could just watch music videos all afternoon. That was back when MTV…BET…and VH1 used to play videos, and played them in entirety.

Having said all of that, I am excited for this post cause Kayne’s newest video for All the Lights just premiered.#GEEKED It features my fav Rihanna and a cameo by the and only Kid Cudi #POW it was drected by the infamous director Hype Williams. and to tell ya’ll the truth I effin loved this video. it was so a Hype Williams production that was so true to him as a director. But it was rather refreshing to watch. It wasn’t overly complicated. NO random women walking around, no cars, no craziness. I like the use of the words, I like the simpleshots of Kanye on the police car, and the simple shots of Rihanna. so that way we can still in enjoy the song without trying figure out whats going on in the video.

I know ya’ll remember some videos that be doin WAY to much in a simple video. So I suggest everyone watch the video.

Lil Kim’s Mixtape Sells 113,000+ copies….on PayPal

ok so Lil Kim dropped her mixtape and has sold 113,000+ copies on paypal hmmm #sideeye but anyway if this is at all true, Congratulations! I guess. The only thing that makes me feel a lil weird about this is that the majority of the album is geared toward her “rival” Ms. Nicki Minaj. And it is obvious from the looks of the cover, the direction and attitude she was going for. But does anyone else feel like an entire mixtape geared toward dissing someone is just a lil bit crazy…ok it could be me!

But for those who do want the mixtape, you can purchase it for $9.99 on paypal’s website. now apparently over the last 28 hrs. since the release of this mixtape she has managed to shut down part of paypal’s server due to the high traffic in small time frame. If all this is true, then 2 thumbs up to her.
