So I wasn’t going to do a post about this but I just could not help it. My ears are upset and my heart is heavy. Now if for some strange reason, you were unaware of the fact that the superbowl took place last night, you should pay close attention to this post. #shoutout to the Packers for winning. And let’s be honest here people, most of the country watches the superbowl to see the national anthem, the half time show and of course the ever interesting and OVERLY expensive commercials. And some folks might tune into the game to maybe win their office pools.
The national anthem…where do I even begin? I watched Christina Aguilera just completely and utterly butcher one of the most important songs in U.S. History. I mean come on, someone clearly didn’t make it to all of her rehearsals. And what hurts the most is that I’m a Christina Aguilera fan. I like her music. I’ve been on #teamchristinaaguilera since her Genie In a Bottle days. I stuck with her through her Dirty album days, Back to Basic album days, and right on through motherhood.
When I heard she was going to sing the national anthem. I was ready! I sat down, stopped everything I was doing. Because in my mind I just knew she was about murder this song (murder in a good way). I just knew she was going to take me back to superbowl XXV when Whitney Houston put her mark on the song. I just knew she was going to show the world why she is a 5 time Grammy winner. And then she opens her and falls flat on her face.
Ok I can’t lie she started off pretty good. The first couple lines weren’t bad but then as she started to go further into the song, and her number of irregularities just continued to sky rocket. I don’t know much about music and singing, but anyone can tell that she was all over the place when comes to the notes. And then she did the unthinkable. SHE MESSED UP THE WORDS!!! Ya’ll when I tell you I was on the floor, I was hiding in embarrassment for her, and I wasn’t the one singing. Like for real I need her to know the words. Point, blank, period! There is no excuse. If you know you will be singing live in front of hundreds of thousands screaming fans, and an even larger television audience, the least you can do is know the words.
And the ending…oh man! For real she was all over the place. And the one thing hate that some singers do, is over sing a song. They throw in ‘ohs and ahs’ in places they don’t need to be. And Ms. Aguilera committed that crime. And you can tell, when ever she messed she threw in an ‘oh’ or an ‘ah’ to cover it up. And I was like (honey no…just stop it. Sing the song the right way) Watching her sing I felt so offended cause she jacked that song up. Lol and the thing is she is a much better singer than what she displayed on Sunday.
#Upset with the performance. And to make myself feel better, and for the sake of all of you I’ll add Whitney’s version of the song!
